Ms. Zhang Zuo started her early musical training in Germany at the young age of five under her piano teacher Victoria Y Mar, placing third at the International Steinway Piano Competition. Upon her return to China in 1995 she continued her piano studies with Dan Zhao Yi at the Shenzhen Arts School, and eventually became one of his most outstanding students. In 2006, she was awarded a full scholarship to study with Nelita True at the Eastman School of Music. Currently, Zhang Zuo is studying at the Julliard School in New York.

With her musical talents, Zuo has achieved many successes in China and abroad. She has participated in many national and international competitions, receiving high praises from juries and audiences. Her accomplishments include winning 1st Prizes in the Gina Bachauer International Young Artists Piano Competition (2000) and the Ukraine Krainev International Piano Competition for Young Pianists (2002), and 3rd Prize at the 3rd Shanghai International Piano Competition for Young Pianists in 2005. In 2005, she attended the 7th International Franz Liszt Piano Competition and was awarded the prize for excellent performance by a pianist under 21 years old. She won the 1st Prize at the 1st International Piano Concerto Competition in China (2006). She recently competed in the Van Cliburn and Cleveland International Piano Competitions and was among fourteen contestants chosen out of over 1200 to participate in the 2009 Vendome Prize Competition, at which she was announced a “Vendome Virtuoso”.

Zuo has been an active performer from age ten, giving solo recitals worldwide to great acclaim. Upon invitation by the Chinese Musicians Association, she recorded a VCD entitled Outstanding Musical Children of China - Piano Performance Album, and a CD, entitled A Collection of Talented Young Pianists, which were released nationally for pedagogic purposes.

She has a large repertoire of piano works and has collaborated with various orchestras, including the Shanghai Philharmonic, Beijing Philharmonic, Guangzhou Philharmonic, Shenzhen Philharmonic, Lubeck Philharmonic Orchestra, Neue Philarmonie Westfalen, the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, Macao Symphony Orchestra, and the Teneriffa Symphony Orchestra. Critics have hailed her performances as “full of enthusiasm and glamour, radiating the vigor of youth.”

In January 2012 Zhang Zuo made her debut with the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
